I was responding to the idea that they may be designed for the visor to pop off? I was kindof thinking that they are designed to pop off if the impact is taken at a certain are of the helmet? I dunno though, just thinking aloud!

Not sure if I'd be happy with the visor flying off on impact tbh, when I went through a road sign the visor and chin bar took the impact and the visor stayed on, I ended up cartwheeling into a hedge and I'd rather not have a branch lodged in my eye socket because the visor popped off...

Yeh, the branch in the eye socket thing doesn't sound overly appealing.

Don't know anything about the Shark but when I had my off the visor and chin piece on my BMW Flip Front[Schuberth] lid took all the impact and although well scraped up kept me intact.I appreciate there might be a substantial price difference but surely they are all tested in a similar manner
Probably get shot down for this next bit but I got a replacement flip front and the helmet tested and it was deemed ok. It is the "ugly-est cumfy-est" quietest helmet I have ever had and keep it for dodging about local as I can wear it without earplugs. P.S.I have replaced it with an AGV for general riding Last edited by Dicky Ticker; 11-05-10 at 06:54 AM. |

I must admit, I'd have been happier if the visor had stayed on.
Because I'm a muppet I bought the wrong sized new lid so had to strip down the damaged shark to transfer the whole internals to the new lid. This gave me a good chance to see how it was all put together. I swapped everything from one helmet to the other including the polystyrene inner shell. With everything removed the shell (polycarbonate) had quite a bit of flex it so I presume it was this that popped the visor off. There was no cracking to the shell though, despite the scratching and impact, so I'm a happy bunny. Hopefully the next helmet will last a bit longer ![]() |

Berlin, just one question.....are you sure the inner polystyrene of the old shell will be ok? As this is the part Im sure youre aware that disperses the energy. Might be worth getting it checked out or simply buy new inners.
As for visor, I would certainly prefer it to stay on. When I crashed in my original vemar lid the visor stayed on and thank god it did as I went down the motorway on my face. One of the main reason's I went from an S800 to an Arai was in fact the visor clips.....from constant use I found the clips didn't hold as well as at the beginning, plus the visor would pop open sometimes on its own accord!!!!
