Hi Ive had the US20 first to carry laptop and leads and all i need for a day out, now getting 2 US10's and a small rucksack for touring, great stuff and dry, all other soft luggage is not waterproof and im amazed as they are a UK company.

Really thought UK manufacturing was dead but have been proven wrong.

I have Kriega stuff too but wouldn't fancy carrying a laptop in one. I have a swiss rucksack specifically for carrying laptops. It's protected very well. If I were worried about it raining and getting wet, I'd stick the laptop in a plastic bag and still carry it in the ruck sack.

And would you say the R30 would fit a pair of shoes, change of clothes etc etc?

I'm going to have to start commuting soon and was thinking of getting one rather than a car.

I have the R20 and I can fit my trainers, sports kit and a towel in it. So I would have thought the 30 would be plenty. But isn't the R30 the R20 with a 10 litre tail pack which can be fitted to the R20?

Yup. Very good in my opinion. What makes them better than other rucksacks (apart from the quality) is the fitting. When it's on your back, because of the way it does up, you can hardly feel you are wearing it.
