Yes, and even when the sun isn't shining directly through the gap into your eyes, it hits your forehead, and then you get a bright line of sunlight reflecting back off the inside of the visor into your eyes. I never got on with it.

I have a clear visor with a Hyperoptic insert in and a gradient tint visor with a regular pinlock insert. The regular pinlock works best for not steaming up, yet the hyperoptic goes a nice orangey colour that actually helps me see better. Downside to the gradient tint is that as the night draws on, it's harder to see (obviously).

I have just bought a shoei xr1100 and opted for the insert instead of the full tinted visor. i can say that I don't catch the sun from the sides or top or bottom. personaly i would recomend it. My old lids insert was much smaller and would have caused an issue but the shoei one seems to have more coverage.

If you get the 'race' insert the insert covers more area of the visor and there is virtually no gap at all for the light to get in.

Picked up an ari branded reactalite pinlock insert, very impressed and reckon its perfect for all year round in on the clear visor, tho for proper 'clear blue sky' days it will have to be back tot he race dark visor or i'll end up with a migrane from hell.
