V-strom 650 hand guards are a direct fit. They do not touch the front fairing, they do keep your hands warmer (dont like hot grips, hot palms frozen knuckles) they do keep your hands dry, they do protect when you clip wing mirrors. Best mod i put on the SV. That is all.

Mine fouled the front cowl, and that was when they were fitted right, not held on with cable ties and duct tape. As far as I remember, may be wrong, but 99% sure mine did?

Which bit of them foul on the fairing? Is it something a little dremmel/hacksaw action could rectify without detracting from the "protection"? I've been thinking about this as they're considerably cheaper than hot grips, and I don't particularly like fat bars - in the gym yes, bike no.

Cheers,
A.

Not saying they didn't dave but mine dont. Just been and checked again and theres a couple of mm clearance on each side. Its entirely possibly i've fitted them incorrectly though

Ebay has a couple of sets around £50 from uk £35 from usa at the moment, search either DL650 hand guards, or Vstrom hand guards.

There could easily be a few mm difference between the position of two pointy fairings. They are only held on by the bolts that hold your mirrors on, which bolt into the front cowling brace (a metal subframe that bolts into the headstock), and the two decorative bolts that screw into a flimsy mounting bracket on the frame spars (look at the photo, behind the Suomy sticker and in front of KG's knee). Those mounting brackets can be bent and moved back or forward very easily. Bent back a few mm = handguards fouling the fairing, bent forward a few mm = a few mm extra clearance. Don't **** about too much because if you can visualise the mirror bolts as a fixed pivot point, and you move the mounting brackets forward, you effectively rotate the whole front fairing upwards and raise the angle of your headlights which are only bolted into the plastics of the nose fairing and will move around with it. Both these mounting brackets and the front cowling brace itself are easily bent in an accident, further changing the position of the nose fairing on any crash repaired bike.

I take it is the ones that are for a DL650 years 04-09, rather than a 2010 model which is a different part number?
