The itunes ne'er sayers will be along shortly no doubt.

If you are a bit of a technophobe then something that is drag and drop would suit. You just plug it into your puter and it acts like an external drive.

I think just about every mp3 player except ipod works in this method.

Long gone are the days when could judge the quality of a player by how softly the door ejects (yes we used to spend hours in Tandy doing this, and auto reverse was the shizzle....)

oh and metal TDK ftw

I found four brand new TDK D90s in a box of my old stuff the other day. I used them when I had an Amiga 600+ back in the early 90s

OK thanks so far.
Another question - do I need a special programme on my laptop to transfer cd's to a little machine?

Would probably help people to give advice if you said you were going doing the Ipod or Not an iPod route as all the others work similarly.

You'll need some program, but noting complicated & you'll probably already have it on your computer like windows media player.
If you just put a CD into your computer and see what happens. The term is RIP to copy music off a CD.

I hope the above is correct, I'm far from the best person to ask but unless you've been getting lots of pm's I'd have thought someone would have replied by now.

TDK Metal for me all the time.

Messie, ok, what you need to do is use a programme to RIP(Thats not kill) your music to your PC. Many programmes do this, Windows media Player, Itunes to name but 2. This will then put your music in Digital form onto your Laptop/PC wahtever. You can then go and purchase a flavour of Digital Media player of choice. Again, lots to choose from, maybe too many, but IPod and Cowan are good. If you choose a fruit based music player then you have to Use ITunes. Others can now transfer, but ITunes is desined for the little blighter. Both programmes are similar in use and you can create Playlists etc so that you can have ones for happy, sad, angry or Murdering sprees, whatever floats your boat.

You can also *Coughs* borrow music from other people that you can put on your MP3 Player.

If you need more help, call me, and i will fly over and help you out like.

Get an Ipod Nano

Simple to use, itunes is easy to 'rip' cds, and they're good bits of kit. There's a good reason why apple dominate mp3 player sales ...

Thanks for this advice guys. I'm seeing a little more clearly now.
Next question - I don't know anything about the different makes of players. To Ipod or not to Ipod. Tbh I don't think I'll be buying may tracks off a system; I guess I really see myself putting on all the cd's I have and am likely to get, but maybe they won't be around for ever. I do like the idea of making playlists though. Specially the 'murderous' ones lol!

Download Itunes, have a go with it and see if you like it. It should copy cds and name them correctly.

If you do like it, get an Ipod. 8Gb would be more than sufficient
