I know for a fact that you can ride the bike if it has been taxed you do not need to wait for it to arrive in the post. And other people have said about a V62 form to tax it - I don't know about this, but I don't see the benefit of posting that he will not be able to tax the bike. |

"If you use the electronic vehicle licensing service or tax by post at the end of the month, there’s now an exemption for not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month to allow time for the new disc to arrive in the post. While you are still waiting for your tax disc you will need to display your current tax disc. The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires."
I quote the DVLA. However I stand corrected on the V62 issue.....well I never knew that! Link to V62, just print and take it in: http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum.../dg_067819.pdf Last edited by Shonky; 08-07-10 at 11:33 PM. |

The way I read the notes of the v62 form (part F) is that only the current keeper can tax the bike without a v5 present as long as no details have changed and he has an MOT cert + insurance valid.
So as long as he has valid insurance on it still... Quote:

Can anyone confirm that the normal process of sending off parts of the V5 can be done via letter to DLVA or by any other means?

Or perhaps (assuming he has insurance still) he could tax it, and then I could submit a v62 myself saying that I have not received my new V5 in the post (lets pretend the slip I sent off got lost in the post)

I believe, and it is only a belief, that if the guy you a buying it from writes to the DVLA stating that he lost the V5 but is no longer the registered keeper as of blah de blah date and that he transferred ownership to yourself of address xxx, and you apply for the V5 via necessary form, all bases will be covered.

![]() Don't think you need to send in a V62 as well as long as he forward the V5 on to you when he gets it or submits it to the DVLA a bike sold. So you would just fill one in if he does not do this. |

I guess a call to the DVLA in the morning should resolve this once and for all...
Fingers crossed and all... |
