That is exactly the answer.

You get good and bad claim handlers everywhere.

People have been slagging of MCE but I'm on my 2nd year with them with no hastle at all.

Everyone aims not to find out how good the companies are with a claim.

I've been with CN for six years. I've used their breakdown twice, the second time to didn't have to do, but because of them recording conversations, had to honour! Damn quick to send breakdown out, and a specific bike carrier, not any old wihte van man.
They did go down in my estimation, when I put the VRap on my multibike policy, not only did it go through the roof, but they c0cked it up so Peg wasn't insured when he brought it home, even though they said it was...paperwork that came the day after said not. I had a right old palavar getting it fixed, and also while they were at it, they managed to bring down the cost of my policy by a rather substantial lump, after a lot of argy bargy.

BUT, at least I could understand the person talking to me, and the breakdown service is quick. I'm dreading the renewal in May, expecting a lot of arguing. BUT again, you pay for what you get, and I'd prefer all the bells and whistles on my policy, rather than 'cheapo -your not covered for that- but -you thought you was insurance'

All said with CN, I've just got an online quote for Carole Nash as a new customer and its £70 less than my renewal quote (which I'm sure has gone up- despite an extra year's no claims!!).

I will be having words...

Renewal quotes are always more with any companys because there is so many numpties who just let insurance autorenew.

Ringing them and bartering is the best way with CN.

Indeed. I'll also be going for helmet and leather cover this year- so if I can get both for £200, I'll be happy...

With CN it's cheaper to get an online quote than it is to ring them and barter. I've done this for the past three years and saved about 50 quid a year that way.

I've always get a better deal ringing.

If you get an online quote with them they won't beat it on the phone, so now I get an online quote with a different name, then ring.

As the starter of this thread I can now report that after some enquiries from 'Real Classic' magazine and one or two other people in the press, Carole Nash have suddenly backed down and will continue to insure machines without lights, presumably a clip round the ear'ole for whoever was 'peddling this twaddle' as another insurer commented.
