I used ratchet straps as well. Word of warning though, be careful when lowering the bike off the ratchet straps. One side released with a jolt and I virtually dropped the thing. An SV1000 is fairly heavy when you are trying to lift it!

Can i ask how you got past your exhaust because of course it is mounted off the rear footpeg. Did you pass between the exhaust and the bike? I cant picture the gap and its too late to go out...
![]() Axle stands i have, i am considering using a combination of my jack under engine, axle stands under footpegs and then straps to hold her securely. I just want to make sure there is no possibility of it going. Tomorrow i shall be visiting local hardware stores and getting some strong straps or whatever i can get that is suitable. Edit: Scrap that, its too late i'm not thinking... Looks like the exhaust is coming off!! I'm ashamed i didn't think of that... Last edited by Elltg; 08-03-11 at 10:47 PM. |

![]() Dont know if it will help, but did a photo "How to" which is here. http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...ighlight=shock If you are fitting a ZX10 shock then you dont have to be too drastic with the battery, it will still fit without all of the messing I had with the old 6R shock.

For mine (curvy) I took the pipe off inc. collector, left the headers on, cable tied the front brake, and got an axle stand under the right rear engine mount. Be careful if you do this, if you jack the engine up too far the bike will fall over. Also be careful however you do it when you release the weight of the swinging arm and back wheel, the centre of gravity might shift to somewhere you don't want it!
I've also suspended it from straps in the garage but it swung around a lot. Cable tie front brake again, but no need to jack anything else up, just leave the front wheel on the ground. |

This is all great stuff, i feel prepared now! Just got to get the ZX10r 04 shock i have fitted with a different spring (its fitted with one that equates to 8.16 KGf whilst the stock curvy had 9.x KGf). I'm pushing 13 stone and at the moment im lean thanks to being laid up via injury, once i get back in shape its just downhill from here! So a 10KGf/100N spring it is! That way i have a good adjustable shock and a good spring too.
God knows if it might help anyone but i'm going to gather some of the facts for anyone doing a search. Going to cost £90 shipped for the spring (55/58-195-100) (10KGF/100N) from k tech >HERE<. Spring rate table found >HERE< Going to cost me £10 to have the spring fitted by a local tuning shop >HERE<. Of course this isn't so handy to all. Then going to support it from inspiration from 2 picture guides. ad53ggz: >HERE< Full thread >HERE< and mister c: >HERE< Last edited by Elltg; 09-03-11 at 01:21 PM. |

I'd go a little further and take the plastics of the area your going to lift the bike with.
When I put the WP shock in the SV I put the bike on front and rear paddock stands then just used a good ratchet set to take the strain on the rear end of the bike. Then just dropped the rear stand out and Ta Da the bike was suspended in the air, then swapped the shock after spending about an hour cleaning everything that was now opened up. Once everything was cleaned and changed I put the paddock stand back in releasing some of the strain and the jobs a good un. It is slightly weird looking at a bike suspended off the garage roof beams but it works.
