I don't think you need to get rid of the internet all together, just like fat people don't give up food all together. You just need to learn to 'put down, the fork'

We "give it up" whenever we go abroad on holiday 'cos we're too tight to pay the extra! Or at least, we did. This year most of the hotels had free wifi so we took the laptop with us. Just to check emails etc.

At home, I probably only spend half an hour or so here seeing what you guys are all up to of an evening (or more if Lozzo's said something REALLY controversial) and maybe a few minutes looking for kit but that's about it. I could give up any time I want. Honest. No, really I could.....(sounds of straitjacket going on and laptop being prised from fingers.......)

I share your feelings. I detuned my tv and quit paying the tv licence last year because I felt I spent too much time watching the box. However I seem to have replaced this with the internet. Being a shift worked, sometimes I can get up during the week on my days off, and just spend the whole morning refreshing pages such as this, hoping that something has changed.
I have internet access on my mobile and at work, so I too keep thinking maybe I should quit my broadband connection at home to push myself to be more productive. We'll see.

so, in order to initiate this disconnection from the web you thought you would start an internet based discussion about it??

Nowt wrong with using the internet, its what you use it for that can make you brain dead. Take up reading.

Looking at the internet is reading

I dont read books tbh, find it hard to hold my concentration long enough, all i see is words after a bit and dont absorb what im reading, i read loads of bike and photography mags though.

The benefit of a book though is that it isnt full of stuff to distract you from the main theme. Internet pages lure you off down some unintended path very easily.

Noooooo! Never!

What you could do Binky, is stick your broadband router on a timer switch, attach it to the wall, then glue a wooden box round the whole lot. That way you can get internet between say 8pm and 10pm, and if you want it any other time you have to smash the box off the wall, and probably re-plaster and re-decorate afterwards.
