They mentioned that on ethe news. Too difficult to remember in the heat of the moment, too personal.
Vinnies way should keep them alive until the ambulance arrives

I did the course recently and I think they said it had been increased from 15 pumps 1 breath to 30 pumps 1 breath or something like that

The reason for the compressions only is that the blood contains enough oxygen to keep the brain alive for ages so long as it flows through it.

It changes all the time. Every time I refresh my qualification the rules change.

I've also done several first aid courses over the years and the problem is that the emphasis seems to change every few years depending on the current thinking. It's important to keep blood going to all the organs but at some point it's going to need some more oxygen in it - where is the tipping point? I've been taught 1:6, 2:12 (which is not the same thing), 2:15 hence.....

Let us remember here that of those people who suffer a cardiac arrest, which is different to a heart attack, less than 10% survive.

But some people do survive it - and Chris8886 on here is the proof of that.
(Thanks to a couple of quick thinking Aussie nurses in the bar in Thailand where he collapsed who did chest compressions for ages). And so is my father in law who keeled over in his office 10 years ago and is still going strong after a heart attack thanks to CPR.

So if you get a chance to learn first aid, do de fib training or just the CPR part then do it. Don't panic about how many and how quick, they'll die while you stand there doing the maths, just do what you can and keep going, it's not like the movies where the person coughs, groans and sits up again, you'll be exhausted so get others to help you until the ambulance arrives with the defibrillator.

My eldest daughter owes her life to a male nurse in Leicester, who did the same after she arrested following a very light car crash. Caz has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which she unfortunately inherited from me and my mum, only she has it far worse than mum and I do.

I've read there will be sufficient gas flow to lungs due to compressions alone.
