Default Re: Gearshift problem after lever change.

When you can't get it into first, (with it running...), try momentarily release the clutch, then attempt to select 1st again.

(sometimes with the 'box stationary, the dog teeth are directly aligned and so can't slide to engage each other, this is normal. Apologies if this is teaching how to suck eggs)

The clutch lever on the left handle of my bike is indeed bent. I did however take off the case that is right behind the link rod and above the drop link where the clutch cable appears to go into the engine. Though my clutch lever is bent, when I pull on it it does pull tension on the chord and move. I can try to adjust it so it pushes the clutch push rod more and see if that works. The shift lever however, does not move easily when the bike is off. When I move it up or down to shift, it feels as if it gets stuck right about when it is supposed to shift and just doesn't. This is for shifting up and down and with the clutch in and out.

Also as I said my battery was dead, I went to charge it today and it says that I have to buy a new battery cause this one is way dead. So that will take a little while before I can start it up again and see if that makes a difference.

With the bike off, try shifting as you rock the bike backwards and forwards slightly, clutch out.

I do not believe you could do any damage snapping poxy bit of brittle alloy off. They snap all time and I have never seen real damage from it.

Tried this now. It feels like I get down into first, still with some difficulty though. But Still not able to shift above neutral. When I roll it forward and get it to first and let the clutch out it stops rolling, which means it is in first, then but up to neutral and it rolls, again shifting between first and N is kind of difficult. Still can't shift up past neutral.

How the hell did you manage that?
Got punted up the **** and into a park car, it knocked the gear select hard while revs were high.

Get it into first, take it for a ride and see if you can get it into 2nd without the clutch (pressure the gear select up and close then open the throttle quickly)
Does this work ok?
