This is my attitude too. A lot of my mates started playing Golf as we/ they got too old for football. They got quite good at Golf while I went on playing football for too long and then got into motorbikes again.

Even though I am a very, very average golfer, there's always a moment when you hit a good shot or make a good score and you look around at the countryside and the course and think.......yep this is a privilege, what a bloomin' nice way to spend the day.

(This makes up for all the anguish and frustration that goes on before and after, that moment)

Improving would be good! My old man does want to give me advice, but is rubbish at it. I took on board the essentials. Straight arm, head still, basic posture etc. while at the driving range. Now everything else he says to me is useless. Here are 5 things you did differently this time, correct them all, I'll ramble on for 10 minutes until you've glazed over and forgotten everything I said and become frustrated. That was my experience. Eventually I got him to shut up and then there was no feedback to help me improve!

Obviously a buggy and some mates would make it better though!

Its that moment you connect with the ball just right and it goes exactly where you want it to go, then you are hooked.

I still remember a shot I made with my 3 iron, ball above my feet, I had to hit a fade around a tree which was about 120yrds away from me, and the green was about 210yrds away from me. Did exactly what I wanted to do, perfect low, punchy fade and sailed straight on to the green. Shame I was on my own

Nothing wrong with the Golf, cracking all-round car. This one even looks pretty good

Sorry, just re-read thread. You mean gol...................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........eh, what, erm..... sorry snoozed off there for a moment. Dreadful game, no doubt made worse by the fact that, apart from a Stuuk moment when I was about 13 at the local pitch & put, I am completely useless. That, and the fact that I detest the way it permeates the business world. A company I used to work for was obsessed with taking customers out for rounds and, except for a few tediously "talented" individuals, it was just embarrassing all round. And frequently cold and wet. And windy. And just generally sh&t. Give me go-karting (which, tbh, I'm not much better at but really enjoy) any day.

I first started playing golf about 10 years ago in Germany. When I finally moved to St Andrews i thought it would be great and i would play a lot more. Been here 6 years now and been on the driving range twice.

My daughter did win a 4 ball for me to play on one of the local courses.......must find it and get 3 more equally bad players together for a day out!!

I'm Sure i'm as "equally bad" if not worse. Just let me know and i'll be through.

back on topic.
I play a wee bit and it's that one shot, one hole that keeps you coming back. I started when i was a kid but never realy done a full 18 holes untill i was in my twenties and that was a struggle. i do enjoy it now though.
