Well blow me!
It only bloody started!
Some jiggery pokery and it boomed into life massive ploom of carbon and a horrid stink of gas later I had it at idle.
I rode all the way in without having to hit the starter button again, arrived at work and tried to get it to cut out, it did but it took some pursuading. Lets see how it does on the way home when traffic is more stop start stop start.

I cant let it idle in a static position, takes seconds to get hot and just as quick to over heat, I'd need a huge fan in front of it which I dont have. I've supplied it with a new carb body and that body has been cleaned, dried and stored, then cleaned again when I unpacked it last night. The fuel Im using is optimax but you're right I'll push some redex through tonight.

In other news I found my main jet to be 150 as opposed to the 155 most seem to use, Im gonna try get hold of a 155 and do a swap to see if I notice any change.

Hi MATT, I have a couple of "spare" cv carbs that came off a Ducati, not sure whether they will be the same size but may have usefull parts. I will go into the garage and measure/strip to look at jetting and vac diaphragm, you may be lucky??

If the mains are the 2N222 or similar sounding thing (M5 thread) then I've a bag of them in 137-165 sizes as that's what SV uses.

But this doesn't sound like just jetting.

Cant hurt to rule it out though, cheers.

NB: Got your text, I did check the rubber seals in intense detail last night, nothing un-toward on any of them.

Sounds like your intake boot have a leak, I went crazy with a gs500, the more I dis and reassembly, the crapest ran the bike, finally change both boots, and runs fine.

Rode home the stop start way (lots of junctions and no duel or motorway) had no bother at all! Still never quite felt sure it would fire when setting off from idle but nether the less it did.
I'm think you and lance were right, basically an air leak that remove and refit may have cured.
It did cross my mind that the K&N was an addition by myself so I checked the JD stage 1 jet kit for sizes and found I'm supposed to be 155 or 160 main with a 135paj and 22.5pilot when I'm actually running 150main, 160paj and 12.5pilot... Me thinks the previous owner was talking out his **** when he said it had been jetted to suit 3x3 as all he's done is change the main from a 140 as per stock.
