you see we have a basic misconception here, the standard SV reg/rec I've found isn't any weaker than most, I had the same one fitted for 153,000 miles, it sat for 5 years neglected and worked perfectly when the bike was rebuilt, as far as I know it's still working today, likewise I've had a number of SV brought to me with supposed reg/rec problem; only to find out it was something else, so for a plug and play option another SV one is easiest.

However, if you are wanting something else, make sure it has the same amount of wires, you'll probably have to cut plugs and solder to get it to fit, but one from most of the middle weight bikes will do.

Cheers Mark.

on the current rec/reg there is 2 connectors,
3 black wires to one & the otheir connector is 2 black and white bottom ones and top two are red & black

codes on bottom are as followed,

RS41 16Go
60 6E22
^ (is that the standard codes for reg/rec k6 sv650s) ?

wires are tapped up with duck tape leading to the wires before the connectors (not reg/rec wires) - looks like previous owners had trouble?

Therefore there are 7 wires, take it 3 black ones are what iv read in other threads (yellow wires)
and white/black are negative and red/black are positive?

bought a £10 :'( multimeter from ebay... going to be atleast a month till back on road no dout :'(

Many thanks K1ngy

the three wires are the AC ones (go to the engine) you can check the AC circuits from them, the others are paired negative and positive on the DC side.

Cheers Mark.

i can tell you a story or two about reg/rec,my son turned up the other day on his 1990 ish tzr125,the ignition is taken care of with out using the battery part of the charging system, anycase no lights indicators horn or anything so checked battery and 12 + volts, checked fuse and it was blown,so out comes a 13 amp fuse problem solved or so i think, after about 30 secound later with bike not running but ignition turned on i could smell burning and then smoke from under tank,so wip fuse out take tank of and feel reg/rec and it was very hot take said reg/rec off bike only to find all 3 white wires from alternator melted and shorting out on frame,
so son then goes to local rip off bike shop(orwells) and order a after market reg/rec priced at £75,this thing is the size of a match box and i couldn't believe the price they wanted for a after market reg/rec,so 20 minutes on ebay and a local online shop is selling the same reg/rec for £25+£4 postage, the words daylight and robbery come to mind,so just hoping the alternator aint buggered as well, afterall it is 22 years old and most likely on the original reg/rec and alternator windings

Sounds about right, I would preffer black color on my 0V lead, but you can't allways get what you want. Now before you start off riding, maybe you should check each set of dynamo windings using your newly purchased resistancemeter or ohmmeter, sorry for poor technical english, but I am from Polarbearcountry. You should find what resistance valvue you should be measuring in your workshop manual, haynes manual.

I don't understand what your are writing... Could you rephrase so that a guy who have only dealt with the queens english in writen form and some technical english can understand? And if I have put the puzzle together right, you have a reading on your multimeter while measuring your regulator? And what are you measuring? If it's ohms I would not think it's duff(broken if I understand you correctly?) Did you follow the manual? And how did it compare?
