Something i also read and was looking for an answer before i fit mine in a few weeks... is this the most common location/fitting?

scottoiler now only supply a cradle with their kits and no longer supply the 'hoop' fitting like the one shown in this guide. no matter though as the cradle cable ties to the rail in the same place.

yes most people that own a pointy put the oilier under the pillion seat.

Mine is in the same position under the seat at an angle. Works fine. Mine was fitted when I bought it but the install could do with a tidy up.

On another note I see your chain has a split link in it. The SV should have an endless chain or have a rivet link in it.
It's not quite horizontal, since it pretty much follows the frame rail. Hydrostatically the only difference is possibly a 50mm difference in the possible oil level height, which should be negligible. To back this up, I have adequate flow between settings 2 and 3, with current mean ambient temperatures around 55F, so there's plenty of headroom to get more flow.

I always use a riveted master link, but have not got around to that on this one yet, it's as acquired still.

I've fitted mine under the rear seat of my curvy too, although I've got mine set at an angle of about 30°. It works well like that although it obviously reduces the operational capacity at that angle.

Since I had to ditch my touring reservoir I too have had to mount mine at a bit of angle. Its under the l/h side side panel strapped to the frame with one of Scottoilers fixing straps. I can manage to fill it up to a good level without too much hassle by just taking off the rear seat. Interesting to hear what others have had to do. TBH I couldn't find anywhere to mount it vertically, so the next best thing had to do.
