in the second pic , am i right in thinking there should be a clamp here?

Yeah there should be a clamp joining the downpipe to the rest of the system to increase the seal but to be fair, if you can't feel a leak it shouldn't be a problem and it won't fall off as the fit is so tight.

Panic over think a shop local to me is re-welding my original exhaust back on later on tonight for £30 quid.... Doesnt sound too bad i spose....

Easier than trying to separate the headers from the connecting pipe, which would have required removing the headers at some point

All done! problem solved ( i hope ) they also put an extra baffle in my danmoto pipe which makes it bearable haa

Just saw this, good stuff on getting it sorted.

For reference to get the exhaust apart:
- Plus gas (or similar) all the holding bolts for a day prior
- Strip the endcan and link pipe off
- remove and hope for the best with the front nuts/ stubs. Have new one there ready to put in.
- Take the clamp off the rear header and WD40 it and give it a good wiggle
- Get a good rubber mallet and hit on the 2-1 section until the rear is free
- Hit the front just after the first bend and it should all be good
