More air resistance at higher speed meaning you get more slip as the power kicks in hard in 5th? But when I have had slipping clutches it always seemed to happen in 1st and 2nd under acceleration.

I'm no expert but whenever I've had clutch slip on the SV after cocking up adjustment, it's most prevalent pulling away hard in a high gear at low speed.

Think what it's like when you try setting off in too high a gear on a pushbike -if any weakness is going to give way in the drivetrain, it's then.

Not always the case. Can happen at high rpm/high gear.

Yeah but you'd expect it to happen in both instances, wouldn't you?

Could just be down to the tweaked power delivery/engine characteristics. I had a Mazda MX3V6 once that always felt like the clutch was slipping when you revved it to the limiter. It wasn't, it's just the little torque it had fell off at a certain point, so it kept revving but you didn't notice any increase in road speed.

Loved it though - under-rated little cars.

I can tell you for a fact that it does happen this way (for me). I can't confess to having much knowledge but I had this problem exactly. It could be that I shift through 1st/2nd to use the torque so never got to the revs for the problem to show so perhaps it would have been present in all gears. But it was definitely happenning at higher RPM's in the range (not lower). But the only fix I did myself was to adjust the clutch cable at the levers and I've never had the problem since.
