Do they always try and secure bikes on the ferry? As I'm going to the Isle of Wight next month, first time on the ferry with the bike.

Wouldn't worry, you're only going a couple of miles. Take a bungy cord for around the front brake level if you're worried, just stops it moving. I used to do the Irish sea crossing. We used our jackets to pad against the side of the ship and load of rope + bungies for that crossing.

If your unlucky to get a bad day your stay with the bike.
The only rock the ferry gets is as they mour up.
