Default S'he's dead jim'

Losing one litre from 2.3 shouldn't have done what mine did. But then who am I to comment on bike maintenance.

The engine may have gone but it's a little early to call it just yet.

Try to turn the motor by hand. You'll need a 10mm Allen key, and a 17mm deep socket.

Charge the battery and try turning it over then.

Was it wet During the ride it died? Have you had any problems with the bike before then?

shall have a look this week if i can work out what i'm doing thanks jambo. Not wet no, i've had issue with wet front spark before putting front fender extender on and it was nothing like that. Had an issue with it not starting at all, not engaging starter motor, but that was a loose wire. different to how its reacting now. will charge battery as well for good measure. May be upgrading to that gsxr sooner than i expected, not that i can afford to =D

Is she a gonner? or is it recoverable
If shes burnt a litre in 700 miles that's a symptom not the cause.
You need to find out why the hell that litre is no longer there... better yet where is it.
No signs of leaking at work etc?
Check for leaks by the front sprocket seal.
Have a look in the coolant as well.
Drain out what oil is left in there and measure it, also inspect that for water and metal.

On my SV, (when it wasn't a garage ornament), I knew full well it gobbled through oil when ragged, so every time I got it out of the garage it would get checked.

This is half the reason why I rip the p*ss out of all you idiots with stupid pointless tupperware around your bikes that makes it hard to see the oil level, if you actually did any mileage on them you'd either see it as pointless and take it off or you'd blow an engine up.

It does tend to have that effect if you are that amount short though.

Matt, as I explained at the time oil doesn't just lubricate an engine, it plays a big part in the cooling as well, and losing almost half your oil means what's left has to work twice as hard......and when you are ragging it (as we were), especially on a curvy that doesn't have an oil cooler, then it won't take long to overheat your oil.....which then stops it lubricating....when then makes things go bang......

emptied coolant and no oil in there, no leaks at work, always park in same spot. emptied the oil and its full of metal, so signs are that i have shattered something. not been inside engine yet to look, but moved everything else out the way. Think she's going to be an organ donor

Well if there's debris in the oil then your bike's really after another motor. Sorry to hear that!
