What are your opinions on the Yam YZ250?

Two stroke dont think it has autolube.

Depends on your experience really all competition two strokes are beasts, great off road, not nice on road.

Also road miles will stress the engine becuase of the constant throttle.

Sound like you want a trail / enduro bike

Like a CRM, KDX, DRZ, DR, RMZ etc......

I'd avoid anything that is even remotely competition based if you are going to use it as a road hack. My first choice would be for something like a DR350 but you aren't going to find one worth having for that budget, which leaves things like the Honda XL range. Plenty of 200/250 versions around for the sort of money you want to spend, you just need to find one that has been cosmetically abused, but loved mechanically.....

You get a cheap ccm ds 604 for <£1000, does it all except massive motocross stuff although ATK made them for proper mx in 89 and they did well.

As a road bike with 17s theyre pretty good, as a toy theyre excellent, off road with the trail wheels theyre very capable. I have three of them in various guises. 55mpg+ is achieveable.

Some people slate them but both people whove claimed to have blown them up couldnt tell me where the oil sight tube is or how much it oil takes, or even that it uses mineral oil not semi.

The rotax is a proven lump used by ccm, atk, ktm, armstrong, mz ect and very nice to work on.
