The SV1000S looks to be great value for money. You can get them for £5400 on the road at the moment and i reckon by the end of the year they'll be around the £5K mark. The 600cc supersports models by comparison will be about another grand or thereabouts. Insurance is about the same.
I wouldn't bother tuning the 650 to be honest. Spending money tuning the bike will generally make it worth less come trade in time unless you can find someone who specifically wants a modified bike. Just my opinion of course. Then there's the issue of reliability. All the best. Martin. |

The biggest difference I have noticed with my GSXR is the handling. The bike is designed to go round corners quickly, and since my track day I'm taking corners faster than ever. The K4 600 is comfortable (400 miles a day is not a problem), confidence inspiring and fun. The tyres are great, the brakes are awesome and the suspension is what you'd expect from the (currently) top rated 600 supersport. The 600RR and new ZXR are similar to the GSXR in performance and handling. Depending on what you use our bike for, if it's a Sunday plaything then go for a 749 if sports is what you want. Cooler, better sound, great fun, and fantastic handling. All that said, next years Daytona 650 is going to be worth looking at too...
However, if you're not into tight corners and peg grinding roundabouts the SV1000 is an excellent package for the money, it just needs some "proper" fairing to make it more sporty. Don't get me wrong, the SV1000 wll do the sporty thing, but not as well a true sports machine, and there have been repeated comments about it's handling at high speed in the press (But I rode 2 of them in France this year, both quite quickly, without too much of a problem). So many bikes, so little time ![]() . |
