Dreadful. However, the plain fact is that there is a lot of that scum out there and im afraid its never gonna matter what the law says, they will carry on driving without insurance etc. whenever they feel like it. Painful fact of modern society!
But hey, its nearly Christmas!!!!!!!

mervin - I think you may be able to sue through the uninsured drivers beaureau, (similar to the Criminal Compensation thingy) through one of those no win no fee lawyers ? I may be wrong but worth checking out?

Right... Mervin, hold your horses for a moment.

First of all... speak to the police, as he's about to get done for a very serious motoring offense. See if the car was insured at all... it may have been someone elses car with a perfectly valid insurance policy on it, in which case you're still covered 3rd party under the terms of the insurance industry.

Either way, you're still covered via the Motor Insurers' Bureau. They have two claim funds - Untraced Drivers (which is what I'm claiming for) and Uninsured Drivers, which is what you'll be claiming for.

At this stage, following the damage you've sustained to your Bike, I would take it straight to a motorcycle repair shop and get them to look at it. They'll probably write it off, but it's been involved in an impact, so it's hardly surprising.

Download and complete the MIB forms, which you can get from www.mib.org.uk. Or directly to the Uninsured Drivers claim section at http://www.mib.org.uk/GFuninsured.asp?id=2.

If you do start getting work on the bike done, keep ALL receipts, and keep a log of what work had to be done.

Alternatively, contact YOUR insurance company and invoke Legal Protection if you have any - any solicitor they employ will have a field day approaching this individual in a civil claim.

The bottom line is - come down on this little b*st*rd like a ton of bricks... make an example of what will happen to anyone caught driving uninsured, let alone having an accident when uninsured.

Finally... I'm glad you're okay, but don't take any further risks with the bike as it's now been in a collision - very different from just sliding it down the road.

Not really... he's probably disqualified already, and the 6 months will be on top of his existing disqualification! C*nt!
