Mike's carbs would have been great for someone doing it from scratch, definately... 6 months ago I would have had his arm off

Its a BMC Race not RS but I desnorkled so its identical now to the RS (same filter elements etc). You will therefore need to rejet! sexysi |

After the last, er, debate I actually compared a Race and an RS sitting next to each other. They are very different and I even contacted the representative from BMC who assured Andrew that there were no differences and he admitted that there had been numerous revisions and he couldn't actually confirm that they were the same. What jets do you have in there at the moment? I've only used 165 and 170 jets with a full race system. Are you sure you wouldn't be better off with 155s or something? |

Mike bearing in mind that the carbs and the setup is standard, then I'm open to any advice. The filter I have bought was from a guy on this forum, so I havn't even seen it.

Hum.... Well, cutting the top off the Race should give some benefits, just like doing the same for a K&N... But like me and Mike have said, you probably need to think smaller for the jets.

So if you haven't got the filter does that mean you are buying it already hacked about or is it still as new?
If the filter hasn't been hacked about then my advice would be to put it in as is and look at putting in some larger Mikuni jets, probably 140 or maybe 142.5 - I doubt you would need anything bigger. Have a look here for a comparison of Mikuni and Dynojet sizes. If the filter is already molested then I'm not sure what to suggest as I was unable to get it to work properly with the modifiedone I tried. |

He's bought mine. Remember it was BMC who said its identical to the RS when desnorkled, so lets not start that up again.
As you all say, he's going to need 165/170's. I had 165's before I went back to standard setup and it wasn't quite right at top end. I'd go with Mike's setup of 170's. Out of interest Mike, did you desnorkle and remove the entire top (making it into an RS) or dremmel the circular snorkle bit? Andy. |
