Small world, as of today I'm a proud owner of an S2R. The engine is the same sort of power and character just the Duke is so much more rideable without the front end sagging under heavy braking.

It's the two valve engine in the S2R which I've been told is bullet proof, first service is at 500 miles which is £120 then the next is at 6500 which is the same then the next is 12,000 which is £400+£100 for the cam belts which isn't bad compared to the SV which needed doing every 2-3000 miles at £120 a go.

I've had 4 Italian bikes minus the Duke and I never had a thing go wrong and those have been 2 strokes. The SV the battery failed after two weeks, the front plug fills up with water no matter what I've tried (this side of an ugly bit on the front mudguard), a throttle cable snapped and the left footrest fell off on Thursday on the way home from work.

Im sure Italian bikes are much more reliable than they were a few years ago,but I still hear horror stories about customer care. The old attitude that once theve got your money for the bike they dont want to know you still persists, and delays waiting for spares"to arrive from the factory"are still common.Didnt Rides survey put Aprillia bottom of the pile in terms of how long you have to wait for parts?

Done, good job you pointed that out otherwise I wouldn't have noticed it.

Shooter....Ican tell you are trying real hard to justify the new purchase to yourself! I think you are pleased to have made the step up and I wish you many safe and trouble free miles/km's.
As far as needing a buzz these ays? What is a buzz?....Please remind me!

No problem at all justifying the new purchase...the buzz is what I live for... and in your case Peter...it would be the Aprilia. Go for it if thats what you really want. ( You know this already)

"The person that made time made a hell of a lot of it but you also are along time dead" Translated : Do it sooner rather than later.

My enjoyment of the new bike is difficult to put into few words but it's real, very intense and highly stimulating. The "buzz" level in my case is like having a "mistress" my wife approves of.

Hey Dr Bob - Hope you are enjoying your new bike
