They dont always work, i bought one for my boss's car, and it did not work because his battery was so flat that the unit could not detect when to discharge the crank power.

I've never tried bump starting mine on the flat, you'd probably need someone else pushing. I've managed to bump start it on a hill, put it in 2nd, stand on the pegs and drop onto the seat as you let the clutch out to stop the wheel from skidding.

Thanks clunk. I'll try it some day soon.

Turns out the reason for the dead battery wasn't necessarily corroded contacts. I discovered my parking light on yesterday at noon. I bet I left the light on all day when it killed it. No wonder I haven't had a problem since... the battery's been charging fine all along
