They might just make a small difference but nothing major but as Cloggsy says you could well need to get the fueling sorted, which on an FI bike is no problem, but on a carbed SV then it's a bit of a pain as you'll be messing about with shims and jets and can only get it 100% sorted with the use of a dyno.

IMHO there are better and easier mods.

On an SV1k we get 5 bhp in the midrange when we shim the tank and remove the snorkel. Its been proven on a dyno without any fuelling mods. I can’t post up pictures here but you can find tested results in sv1000.zyns. As for the 650 I personally haven’t seen any results but members are happy to date.

I would say a little here and a little they’re added together would make a big difference in the end.

I've got these and i'm not sure about the peformance increase, but with the airbox de-snorkeled and a set of tank raisers the induction noise is luverly

How much of the benefit was from the tank raisers and how much from removing the snorkel?

We did some testing on the SV650 at the end of last year and tried a PiperCross air filter and compared it with removing the complete air box top and using their retaining band.

Probably only 2 hp improvement at the top but 3 - 4 hp all the way through the mid range. Didn't try raising the tank as it's not legal in MiniTwins racing. Then again, nor is removing the air box top, we were just testing different air filters and had some spare time.

Just removing the snorkel on seat of the pants tests doesn’t seem much better. But when we lifted the tank by 16mm it had a noticeable difference even the induction roar increased dramatically. It’s a difficult one to prove but at speed it does seems to pull better in the middle of the rev range. I’m sure that the more direct input of air instead of the restricting snorkel is helping the bike work better. Actually the new slightly more powered 2005/2006 SV1000 now has a much shorter snorkel than the original design.

I just used a stack of washers ducktaped together to give about a 10mm rise and removed the foam from under the tank. I found there's a very subtle power difference, most noticible was the nicer induction note
