I thought the fast idle happened just on startup, ie not temperature sensitive? Don't know for sure but it seems like every time I've been near an injected 650, it runs as rich as anything when it starts from warm...

Nah, that's my point- the fast idle works by riching up the mixture at idle (at least, that's how it works on other bikes with the same FI) which works just like a choke on a carbed machine. But it seems to also happen when the bikes are warm, which causes them to smell like an oil refinery So this'd imply it's a simple "Run rich for 20 seconds" command in the FI that happens whenever you start.

This could all be rubbish, it's just from a few observations not hard facts y'understand. I never really noticed it either way when I was mucking about on injected SVs so I'm far from 100%

Hmmm. Sounds like an ECU problem to me. Back to the dealers with it I think.

Better to let them b*gger about with it than have a go yourself and void the warranty.

Just my £0.02p.

Forgot to post here after i phoned garage.

Well they weren't interested in the slightest, due to the fact i couldn't get the fault to re-occur, just said if it happens again a 'few times' then bring it in.

One thing he did say was that he was sure it wasn't a ECU problem, as far as he was aware the ECU shouldn't be able to give increased revs under a fault condition (H&S and all that). He thought it was a sticky throttle cable?

It hasn't happened since but i was wondering would the garage have 'logged' my call so to speak? If the fault did happen again and i rang to book it in I'm guessing theres nothing to stop them saying i never rang and reported it the first time.

Also would it affect my warranty if i took the bike to a different garage to the one i bought it from, i.e. a very reputable garage/mechanic but not a Suzuki dealer?

i'd suspect something in the throttle linkage - the fast idle goes nowhere near 3500rpm on my bike, even when its very cold indeed.

I actually had a similar problem on my old AR125, this was about 10 years ago and I never got to the bottom of the problem before i sold it. Not too helpful, i know...

I'd go with a sticky throttle - especially if the problem has solved itself.

Sensors are on the rad and on the thermostat housing, make sure the connectors are tight, lastly make sure that you haven't lost any water from the rad - if the level falls then the sensor may not correctly function leading the FI system to think the bike's cold.
