I'd say its worth appealing and hope for the best.

But tbh why should they be given special treatment? They are after all doing their job and need to park their vehicles like everyone else.

I've worked plenty of jobs and had to use a company vehicle to get about to do my work. And got tickets for it. They parked in meter spaces and paid for some time so they knew they were treated like other drivers, ie no special treatment.
And they overstayed. Something that happens to Londoners in their thousands every day. I know its happened to me many times. Thought i'd be 1 hour so paid for 1.5 hours to be on safe side, then got stuck with a client who had many more issues to discuss.
What do i do, tell the client their issues and thier business relationship with me is worth less than me moving may car (ie £50) or suffer the fact that i'll get a ticket?

More times than not i've got the ticket.... and paid it without argument.

These guys just happened to be doing a job that some people think is sweet and kind and so they should be let off by virtue of the job they do.

What next? Clowns allowed free parking cos they make us laugh?

For those of you who dont know me, i HATE parking wardens and contest and appeal any ticket that i should not have been issued. I love to fight them when they have got it wrong.
But in this instance i dont see why "marine rescue" should also read "free parking".
If they were that important they would have a blue flashing light and be treated as one of the emergency services. If not then they are just another company vehicle on the roads, wether we are symapthetic to the job they are doing at the time or not is pretty much irrelevant.
They took up those parking spaces and deprived others of being able to park there. They also deprived the local council of the revenue they could have got from those machines in that time.

Sorry but if it was up to me i'd make em pay it. Call me cold hearted but as a Londoner who has had this happen to me dozens of times i really have so sympathy.

And all parking attendants are 'ers imo!

Aren't they vehicles owned by a charitable organisation?

I certainly don't agree they're just like everyone else trying to do their job. They aren't getting paid, and they're trying to do something that serves the public interest.

The whole issue of paying to park on a public highway annoys me to the extent that I refuse to do it. If I have to pay I don't go there. simple.

We the tax & rate payer fund the construction of roads. Or in the case of my local council, developers in the form of a sweetner to secure planning permission. So why should we then have to pay to park on them.

If only a boycott could be organised then these councils would be forced to change their policies. Most small traders are against payment to park as it drives away trade to out of town etc.
