Tinted visors

Ah, but come those crisp, cold Winter mornings, you'l need both a clear and tinted visors. I now run a clear pinlock visor, with either a clear or dark tint insert. I'm going to get a yellow insert too, great on overcast days....

Sorry for the numpty question, but what effect does the yellow insert have? (particularly on overcast days).

Yellow tint actually brightens the light and increases the contrast, making it better in low to middle light conditions.

You may have noticed that Richard my riding buddy was wearing his yesterday. Perfect day for it really.

I have a clear visor with a dark pinlock, ignoring the legalities I would say get a dark visor with a clear pinlock (so not what I've done!) as with the dark pinlock there's still gaps round the edges where the light gets in and causes reflections of your face on the visor. It's not as bad as having no tint as the refelcection is just around the outside, but it's not perfect.



Gives you an idea of how much gap there is.

I've just bought myself a Caberg helmet. Excellent as it has a built in dark visor that you can flick up and down at will just like a fighter pilot helmet. Only £100 too. Bloody bargain. I also have my Roof LeMans helmet with full race tint for those really sunny days. Even sometimes that is not quite dark enough to avoid a little strain on the eyes yet it is illegal. Crazy.

if you did on the rare occasion get pulled over for having a tinted visor,
and you were using a clear visor with a dark pinlock insert, surely you are still legal ?


after all, you are wearing a "clear visor", its just the insert that is tinted,
its legal for you to wear sunglasses right ?

I don't think so. I think if it's an insert or one of those sticky types of inserts then it is deemed as removable and therefore not illegal. Only the full race visors are illegal. Although I've never been pulled for my full race visor even when stopped by cops. Luck I guess.

I've got this helmet, it's excellent. I've had Cabergs for a while now and they are so comfortable.

Can I ask, you say you have blue eyes, are blue eyes supposed to be more light sensitive? As I've got blue eyes and really suffer, but just thought it was me?
