Cheers Sid,

your reply is fully comprehensive as always.

The reason why I want to change the lines to braided ones is because compared to my fazer600 the SV needs more distance to brake....if that makes sense.

Obviously the soft springs at the front play a big role as the bike dives all the way and then braking becomes less effective.

Soooo at the same time as changing the lines I will be fitting hyperpro springs. Do you still fill that braking will not improve? And if yes then which pads would you suggest to go for so that I complete the package?

Thanks again

Changing the lines won't, at the age of your bike, make any difference to the brakes.
Having suspension and springs appropriate to your weight will obviously ensure that whatever the braking situation, the suspension is best able to ensure good grip and stability.
Whether, in your circumstance, that means heavier springs I can't say specifically as I don't know how much you weigh, however, as it is generally accepted that the standard front suspension is suitable for someone of about 10 stones or so, I'll take a guess that the average bloke, (which I'm assuming you are, if you're a teeny bloke or a petite girl please excuse my assumptions), is a dab more than that, so it's very likely that the front is a bit soft springs wise. That being assumed then the whatever braking force available, it will be better and more easily used if the suspension is something like right.
Plenty of pad opinion about, a search will undoubtedly give you more to read than you'd like - enjoy.
Do bear in mind that the SV brakes are never going to be as good as a Fazer's, the calipers on the SV are perfectly adequate but very simple and not 'trick' at all. Their main drawback is that the calipers themselves flex giving a spongy feeling to the brake, when you consider the forces invloved this isn't surprising and there's no improvement available other than fitting different calipers. However, all that said, the SV has brakes which really are all that's actually needed when all is working right, if the brakes are poor they need attention, not replacement.

I'd save my money and wait until the bike is two years old or so.By that time the brake fluid will be due replacement and your hoses may be starting to age a bit.Spend your money on a front suspension upgrade and enjoy the difference.

Cheers Sid and Biker B,

I am the average bloke indeed in terms of weight about 72kilos really

I think I'll just swap the suspension for the time being as I prefer it a bit firmer and wait a bit longer for the lines and brakes.

Didn't one of the old Fazers have blue-spot calipers?

Improving the sort end will help you use the brakes you have... And some good pads, I used EBC HH but there's loads of options, will cost less than the lines and net you some good results. Not going to take the time to say "Sid Squid's right" because he obviously is

Hehehe yeah I think we are all avoiding to state the obvious about Sid being right AGAIN LOL

U're right about the Fazers and the blue spot calipers. I'll keep the money for the lines for the time being and see how it goes with just the stiffer springs at the front.

Cheers all
