Important:

1. spray after the bike has been running so it's nive & warm - makes it easier for the oil to get in all nooks/crannies
2. Spray the bottom of hte chain & move the bike forward each time so it gets all over hte sprocket.
3. Do it on someone else's driveway so that you don't care about the stains on yours.
That's the way I used to do it before I got a scottoiler.

A good tip (picked up off Superbike's maintenence DVD) is to douse the chain in (can be old) engine oil, then wipe off the excess. Next, spray chain wax all over it. The idea is that engine oil on its own (whilst a great lubricant) flings off too quick. With the constant topping up of a scottoiler, this isn't a problem, but done manually, it is. The wax forms a sort of seal and keeps the oil on the chain.

Personally, I found chain wax to be a real pain to use and one time I dropped a can and the top came off and it proceeded to spray everywhere. In particular, over me and my rear tyre. It was an "interesting" 20 miles before I was confident I'd gotten rid of all the wax on the tyre...

Cardboard - ditto. In gear - never again!!!! Even with the long straw SOME cans come with I would not do this again. A flatmate thought it would be funny to make me jump when I was doing this once and my hand got WAY too close to the spinning sprocket!!

Paddock stand after a ride (warm chain) with manual wheel movements.

Hovi5, in one of your own threads you were getting a Scott Oiler!

In the short term if your worried just spray the chain with lube and walk the bike forward a tad and do the next bit. Not rocket science really. Paddock stand is the best idea.

Good luck on the bidding mate. They are definitely worth it I added the dual injector to mine (this add on to the normal kit and replaces the single oil distribution on one side with two one for each side of the sprocket) which made it a very discreet fitment. Not sure how much better it was but apart freom services and new tyres I never had to adjust the chain once after I fitted it. Have a look at the web site for additional information.

How much are chains?

How much is chain lube?

If you don't lube at all, how long will the chain last?
3 cans of lube worth, 4, 5?

Not a recommendation, just a thought.

I'm always well lubed

Wurth chain Lube every time I used the bike NO MESS and it had done 13000miles chain and sprocket as new The one tip I would give is people have a tendency to overtighten chains so make sure your adjustment is set with your weight on the bike and not on the stand and don't go for the minimum setting if anything err towards the max

Paddock stand and free wheeling the chain by hand and you will know when it is free and perfect if when out of gear and engine running the wheel turns slowly, but stops as soon as you touch it
