I change my oil and filter every 4k. If I've been riding the bike hard instead of just commuting I change the oil every 2k instead.

my sv has got 2400 miles on the clock and has had 3 oil changes.

I change mine about every 2-3000 miles.I find the gearbox gets a bit lumpy if you leave it too long,and the old oil gets kept for putting on the chain and topping up BB junior's SV where it then gets burnt steadily over the following few weeks. His bike has done 80,000 miles though,so it's entitled a bit of an appetite.

Have I really messed up when I put Halfords semi synth in the SV? It's general engine oil, not specific bike oil.

you like your oil as clean as your bike then?

every 4000ish miles for me

Yes,

Motor oil contain friction inhibitors. Bikes have wet clutches, and require friction between the plates. expect lots of clutch slip

aahhhhhh I see - that's an interesting point timwilky - cheers. So the same oil knows to lubricate some parts of the engine but not others - Clever Stuff !!
