He's right, the few times I've carried stuff on the back I've had to keep checking that its still on there. Mind you I do seem to suffer from mild OCD when i get on the bike, i can't tell you how many times I have to check my pocket-zips are closed, then I have to double check and triple check to make sure i didn't miss one. Five minutes later I'm doing it again, same with the helmet strap and air vent.

Tankbag all the way. After going to France with a guy on an R1 who HAD a tailpack.

He overtook me, tailpack slipped back, bungees then pulled it back towards the bike. Unfortunately by this point it was being pulled towards the back wheel. Tailpack gets wedged between rear wheel and subframe, locks back wheel up at 90. He held it for a hundred yards or so until it spat him off down an embankment. He missed a brick wall by about 2 feet.

Collarbone and ankle broken. Plus, cos he didnt inform his insurance company that he went to France, he wasnt insured.

So ever since then, i never even considered a tailpack.

I have a cargo endurance tailpack, and last year I went down to Shell island via Bala in seriously bad weather. I also had my tent, sleeping bag attached and the bag held up superbly, no movement and kept things nice and dry.
Also being a short a*se, I dont think I could manage with a large tankbag.

Slight derail I know, sorry hovis, but when I used to go to Shell Island they never let bikes on the site, instead they had to park outside the gate. Always put me off the idea of going up there on two wheels. Have they now changed their policy, if so I may well take a bimble back over there for old-times sake.

havn't got a tailpack, though if i'm really loaded up i just put it in a heavy duty waterproof bag n stuff it under my cargo net!!
