Thanks Jelster .... but this is specifically designed to run off the 12 volt battery ... nice !

This particular unit has only come out in the uk 2 weeks (ish) ago ... we have had it on order for a while. So maybe they have upgraded a few of the original problems on the tomtom , lets hope so, these things don't come cheap!

I'm starting to waiver about getting a TomTom Rider 2 and am considering a GPS-enabled PDA instead and loading it with TomTom 6. The touch screen on my trusty old Palm IIIxe is starting to play up. Are there any problems with PDA's overheating when running CPU intensive stuff continuously, if it's stuffed into a tank bag top, or similar? Anyone tried the Cardo Scala Bluetooth headset yet? PDA recommendations?

I spoke with a guy last night on an IAM ride and he and at least two other were on their second or third mount due to a known problem where the unit will not charge.

I don't use GPS on the bike at the moment - I keep asking why (I ride for fun), but I do have a Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket Loox N560 (PDA) which has a full VGA screen (lovely) and BUILT-IN GPS reciever. Load it up with TomTom software and off you go. I had a couple of niggles with the Wi-Fi to start with, but the answer to those little blips are on the Loox forums.

I can use it to watch movies recorded from DVD etc - Magic.

How good is the coverage now in Ireland. The first version of rider was rubbish! Is there now street level mapping in Newtownards where I live?

I tried out my tomtom one v2 in the tank bag this morning. Not a great success as the screen was impossible to see due to glare. Also you have to drop your head to much to try and glance at it. I could just about hear the instructions though, pity there's not a headphone jack.

And no, the TT one is not waterproof.

Any updates on the TT rider v2.

Have been using a TomTom710 for a while in Italy and the UK and it works well, I just cant use it on the bike. I guess the rider will also be fairly indestructable in terms of vibration, dropping it etc...

Any mega cheap places to buy?
have found the europe version for £338, but I would like to buy the speaking car mount aswell which is another £50.

The original Rider seemed to have been received with a certain degree of disappointment. I can't see what's changed with the new version - does anyone have a definitive list?

I bought a Garmin device but sent it back because there were too many issues with it, so still looking for a GPS for bike and car.

thanks

I cant recommend the european 2 enough. I used it the other day, in my back pack, just listening to the directions, and its brill!

Hi Tomcat,

Could you answer a couple of questions about your new TomTom Rider please:

1) Is the power switch usable with gloves on?
2) Is the remaining battery indicator easily viewable - I believe it was only visible in a few places on the initial version of the Rider.
3) Is it solid in the holder? Any chance at all of it being able to fall out?

thanks v much

rgds

Rupert
