Building on flood plains is still (plain) stupid. Why can't we build taller like just about any other modern city?

Or build houses that are designed to float. Then park a boat outside.

Works in Venice.

Actually gave that some thought once... involving pilons and chains.....

(and total ignorance)

I agree with this one, at least in the cities. My reason would be less to do with space and more to do with aesthetics...London's great and all, little nooks and crannies to explore but boy do places like Hong kong and New York blow it away for style and impressiveness IMO.

Maybe Peter Gabriel = Nostradamus. We could promote 'Here Come The Flood' as our next National Anthem?

Our house in Botswana was built on a raft, does that count?

(Ok so it wouldn't float as it was made of concrete but it was still a raft)

The thing that grips my s**t the most about this is the lack of help the government will give to its own people.

These fu**ing ar*eholes give billion away to Africa and god knows where else when natural disaster strikes. But wont give more than a couple of million to help out its own people, that really makes my pi*s boil.

Fair enough most are insured etc, that is not my point, and it’s the local infrastructure, roads, power, all the other damage caused by the water that runs into billions.

My MrsFamily come from Evesham (one of the worse affected areas), their house is not flooded however the bridges are damaged and some roads have collapsed. That useless tw*t Brown has mentioned some drivel about making sure it doesn’t happen in the future etc etc, and given a pittance of a donation to help. It will be the locals who pay for it in the end when the councils re-coup their losses by rising taxes etc.

If this had happened in India or Africa or anywhere else other than the UK the uk would be bending over backwards to give out Billions in aid etc.
This Government should remember that Charity starts at home, after all by not helping these people when they expect it from their own government will not secure them any brownie points come election time!!
