Yes , major. A few degrees either way wont make any difference whatsoever. A spirit level located on where? An oil change is not rocket science, nor even a precision exercise. It should be plain and simple. As long as the bike is near vertical then it's fine. But having said that, I do the same sort of dopey stuff like that in other areas, so I can sympathise with the fixated thinking behind it.
![]() If you got two people on the job (god forbid!), then the person balancing will know exactly when the bike is approximately upright. IMHO a mountain out of a molehill is being made in this thread. ![]() |

As posted previously I do use a spirit level on the filler cap section of the tank. A few degrees either way DOES make a difference and as the quantity of oil in a curvy is not great, it only takes 200-250mls from high to low, I prefer to get the maximum amount of oil in I can. On a "go for it" day I can use that amount of oil in 200 miles.

Yes sorry Hovis. I always bow down to those with more superior knowledge than I in regards to motorcycle maintenance.
Somehow though, I just don't see you as one of those people. Hey ho! I've wasted enough of my time for your entertainment. I shall go back to ignoring you! ![]() |

tbh I am not sure about the need for spirit levels, park bike somewhere flattish, hold bike, get down on knees, move bike till you feel the exact point of balance, look at oil level.
Dont drop bike. Fairly simple I thought. |
