I have no idea what 10162kb/s is in real money, but 'no problems' is my kind of tech speak!

Im with Be (O2). Is ADSL2, upto 24Mb with unlimited DL, costs £18 p/m. Mine runs at around 16Mb & never had any connection issues. They even gave a days free surfing on my Bday

Think you have live within 5.5k of the BT exchange to use Be though.

Something a bit suspect with the Be broadband test...

4.5 Meg? (4628 kb/s)

This is my test result elsewhere...

17831 kb/s is a bit more like it!
I live in the middle of no where, so BT lines are out of the question for me.. Virgin does not too bad.

I still come back to my main gripe. Where there is competition prices are low. I have to pay £35/month to get this service. (Well work does and moans as they can supply me with a service from Orange FOC if I lived in an ADSL enabled house.

This is a general restriction on ADSL lines, due to the attenuation I spoke of in one of my earlier posts. It matters not if the copper wires running to your house are connected to a DSLAM owned and managed by BT or Be or SKY or whoever they all follow the rules regarding line length / quality.

Never heard of Be until yesterday. £14 per month for 8Mb is only a quid cheaper than Tiscali and then there's the £24 connection fee. No good.

But £18 per month for 24Mb is verging on the too good to be true...

So long as you can actually get that speed. Obviously.

Obviously. But say I only got half of what I was paying for that would still be 12Mb for £18 versus 5Mb for £15. I don't suppose there's any way to forecast what your going to get?

Of course, even then I'd still have to explain to Mrs Tiger that my search for cheaper broadband has resulted in us paying more...

Not really, Samknows (http://www.samknows.com/) can give you information about what state your exchange is in, but their results have gone downhill now that more people use it - not in terms of accuracy, but in a lack of technical detail.

Ah, this is akin to women getting suckered in to 2-for-1 deals in the supermarket. You don't need 2, and it costs more, but you get more of the product.

Tell her it's a bulk purchase, yes, you're paying more a month, but each Mb downloaded is actually cheaper. (so long as you use all available bandwidth that is)
