I am trying to improve my riding, hence the track days and I guess my riding is getting better in some ways . Even with what I know is bad technique but I am struggling to know what is the best and cheapest thing to do to stop that confidence sapping peg scraping.

Position your toes right at the edge of the pegs, but slightly over hanging.......that way your toes will touch down before your pegs.....give you an inch or so but its an extra bit of confidence.....then you need to start sticking your knee out to guage much in the same way that your doing with the toes.

Helps if you have toe sliders or doing it to much can damage your botts obviously.

In the picture below the toes are right near the end of the peg, so would touch down before the peg itself.....much safer in my opinion.

I'm no expert but have just replaced the rear shock on my 99 bike made a world of difference. A soggy shock could add to the problem I'd have thought.

Good pic G. My rear shock gave up at about 150-20k miles without excess abuse. A stock replacement is better than adead one, but if you spin more for a proper one, or even go the ZX6R replacement route it's even better. I noticed with the stock one on the track you do get noticeable wallow, so that may be part of the story, but I agree with comments above, you need to get moving. I recommend the Superbike School www.superbikeschool.co.uk which is expensive but they'll set you right, guaranteed.

Get the rear end jacked up a little... Can do it with dog bones or a better adjustable rear shock. That should help a little I should think.

About 12 stone you say?

SRAD 750 shock, quite a bit taller, more ground clearance and far better damped. Make sure front has right weight springs and oil in it first though, a tall rear shock will put the stock springs nearly to full compression.
