Yes, that's the one. Well worth going through the rest of xkcd.com though, which is why I linked to the site

Bloody geeks. Get right up my nose they do. Jester asked a reasonable question, one I want to know the answer to as well, and almost straightaway someone posts a "what have you gone and bought one of THOSE for?" reply. Honestly, it really pi55es me off. Some of you techies need to realise that, shock horror, not every one knows as much as you do about techie stuff and we have to ask. Everyone can do something that others can't. I can certainly do things that very few others on here can do but do I sit here and crow about it? No. If you have something constructive to say, then fine. If not, STFU and stop taking the metaphorical pi55.

Right. Rant over.

I'll be trying some of these ideas then. See if I can get my 4600 odd tracks to transfer to my iTunes? I'll probably c0ck it up and be back on here asking for help but, hey-ho, such is life.

I did indeed have the same problem. But that was back in the day when Viney could still spell and my PC recognised the data on my ipod and let me dump it in a folder on my desktop then import it into itunes. I believe that is no longer the case

When I saw this thread, I thought that there was a good chance that Soulkiss would voice his rather strong opinion of the iPod. Of course, his getting the facts wrong was rather amusing. However, we have to dig into his history and psychology to understand his extreme dislike of Apples.

It all started, as it so often does, when he was a small boy. One day, young Master Soulkiss was sitting under an apple tree when plunk! an apple dropped onto his head. Inspired by this, he was compelled to come up with a theory of gravity. However when his teachers told him that Isaac Newton had already invented gravity some 400 years earlier, he realised that he would never achieve the greatness he sought. Left bitter and twisted, he developed an irrational hatred of the humble fruit, refusing even to buy any Beatles albums after Sgt. Pepper. Things got worse still for the geekish lad when Apple Computer released the Apple II. The final straw was the Apple Newton PDA. How he hated them! Being a fan of fantasy fiction, he took to reading Lord of the Rings, but was dismayed to discover that one of the main characters is named 'Pippin'. This eventually lead to his fetish for dressing up as an Orc.

I hope that you now have some understanding and some sympathy for his terrible plight.

Ok slightly off topic but only sort of. I just got my nephew an iPod shuffle and was about to put some tunes on it for him. The instructions say I need to install iTunes to my pc. Can't I do it without having the iTunes software? I heard bad things about the download jobbie?

if you have an iPod you can only apply music to it via iTunes as far as I know. I've 2 different generation pods and can't see another way. the software is fine, caused me no problems
