I've always bought a new helmet before it needed washing.

Ah! Top banana, I noticed both of mine were slightly snugger after washing them but I thought it was the fabric liner un-crushing, this makes sense.

What damage do you think clean water is going to do to your helmet liner?
Just make it go mouldy quicker, comment was aimed more at those who don't have vents at the top

I use the baby shampoo and shower method, you wont believe how dirty the water will be when you rinse it through.

I did mine in the summer and just hung it up outside on a warm day and let it dry naturally, dried pretty quickly that way, no mould either.

Won't wreck it, quite the opposite - You maintain and clean your bike, this is maintenance for your lid.
