Lets all help getting you sorted then!
I'm guessing chris is going to say test the voltage etc with a multimetre but I don't know what they should read when you test the connection etc. You been out and about locally to try any of the roads? |

4 miles isnt enough to replace the charge you use to start the bike,so every time you use it the battery will get a bit flatter. You need an optimate and it needs to go on charge at least once a week if not more.Did you ever fully charge your new battery when you got it?If not it will never work properly and could well be shagged by now.It may be worth getting a multimetre and checking the system again,as all the faffing about might have caused the reg to fail now.

How can you put it on an optimate when its outside and we have weeks worth of rain at a time?
Battery out job or a simpler solution? |

You will need to remove the battery and get it on an optimiser. I had the same problem with my bike when I purchased it, kept cutting out. On putting it on an optimiser for 48 hrs, it charged it up to 14.3volts - placed it back on the bike and all was well.

Extension lead?Charge it at work or somewhere else?.It doesnt need to live on one but a full charge once a week will keep the battery maintained.

It's a waterproof connector with only 12v going through the wire, just run it out the edge of window or something.

I've always charged indoors - just whip the battery out. I had a similar problem with a car being underused and so when i bought a new battery, i kept the old one on a charger indoors. If it didn't start - just quickly swap the batteries over and away you go.

Clutch switch a bit more complicated, dunno! BTW, I don't have an optimate, can't be arsed with one, I learnt my lesson with flat batteries far too often, so go the long way round to work, and make a great effort to go out and bloody ride the things when I get a good chance.
