I'll have a read through all of that, cheers.

The other thing is, the spring on the Ohlins is labelled 1091-31/95 L471, just spoke to MC technics, they say, it's rated for 1-2up riding, for roughly 150-180kg... I'm ~80kg... will be taking the shock for a re-spring in the winter.

More details here

Buy a spring and change it yourself Dyzio. You only need the tool for winding down the preload if it's the same as mine

Cheers, Pete.
The tool for the preload is a C spanner, I'd be tempted to do it myself but I don't think I could take it apart, or it would be possible to put it back toghether after I've taken it apart

From I've quickly read there, I think I would need a spring around 70-80Nm (I'm riding solo 95% of the time)?

That's the shock I have:

Looks like you will need some spring compressors.

The shock bottom will either have some collets around it, or a circlip.

On my shock, once the linkage has been taken off the bottom of the shock, you just wind the preload rings to the top of the shock. The spring then is not under tension and the collar at the bottom of spring slides out. The spring just drops off the bottom then.

Yup it does depend entirely on the shock, on an SRAD750 one for example there is still a small amount of preload left on the shock after the preload rings are backed off to minimum.

Unless the spring is longer than mine it will come off without compressors Chris. No circlip. Just the bottom spring mount

Suck it and see then!

You may find the high speed rebound circuit is a little too hard with a softer spring, depends who has built the current shock.

Yes, I agree. As long as you can seperate the linkage from the bottom of the shock, although IIRC you should be able to undo the ride height adjuster, which will be easier than the linkage bolt. Just unwind the rings and see if the spring falls free and lets the bottom mount slide off. May need a bit of persuading if it's been in place for some time.

Nah, do the linkage bolt route. And lube the bearings while you're in there.
