My ex was a special, he got paid petrol money from home to the station, that was it.

In our force you have to do a minimum of 100 hours a year in total but 200 hours the first year which includes your training.

Lots of pros and cons to this job but I wont clutter up your thread with them.
Good luck

Your welcome to clutter the thread with pros & cons, I'm happy to hear them as its all new to me!

I'd speak to my cousin about it but he works incredible hours a week so is hard to get hold of.

Pros:
- life experience
- good reference for jobs
- foot in the door to become a regular PC
- good grounding for confidence building etc
- free rail travel to certain areas
- police powers anywhere in England and Wales
- defence skills training
- learning the law

Cons:
- demanding stressful role
- you will be obligated to do your required hours per year and training
- may have to deal with violent people or work in unpleasant conditions
- may be treated badly by regular officers who are disrespectful towards specials (yes it happens, Ive seen/heard it)
- might cause problems in your social life
- opens you up to the worst people and things that life has to offer and can make you a bit disillusioned (burden of knowledge)

Hope this helps
