Could we just not claim it's an amazing coincidence all these SV's (and dukes and triumphs) from all over the uk, were on the same road at the same time?

In the unlikely event of there being any truth to this at all:

I think there is a whole lot more to this than appears in the article. I know nothing about this particular case but reading between the lines it looks as if the unmarked bike has followed the three riders for a while and there is evidence to show that all three are traveling in excess of the speed limit and together as a group. That in itself is not difficult to prove and I don't think any of the riders have denied they were speeding.
The question here is really over the penalty and it seems the lead rider has appealed against his original sentence and the matter has been referred to the crown court. All the judge has ruled is that as the three were clearly traveling as a group he has sentenced based on the highest of the speeds recorded. It does seem harsh, but in terms of speeding we are talking the difference between 85 and 103, and to the judge they are both well over the 60 limit.

If you don't want to run the risk of suffering the same fate i would suggest that if you are riding quickly in a small group you be very aware of a stranger suddenly appearing in your midst. The unmarked bike would have to film you for a while to get the necessary evidence to prove the above case.

You could, but then they might ask why you didn't ask the two motorcyclists following you which way to go, given the police have filmed you over the past 10 miles go round several roundabout together, take various different junctions together and then all pull up at the same cafe together...They may even have filmed you at that last T junction where you all pulled up in a line and could clearly be seen talking to each other. You just never know do you?
