Not good news.
If this adds to your info base, a lot of Aussies go to Bangkok for low cost(elective mostly cosmetic and dental) surgery so there are entirely first world standard surgeons there but how you find them I'm not sure. Sorry, that probably doesn't help much.

If you are stuck in chaing mai (It's a hard life!) and fancy a day off the bike then this place is awesome http://www.elephantnaturepark.org/ or you could spend a day walking arround doi su thep or the many other temples! Careful though, the monks won't speak to women.

There are also a couple of book shops just between the big wall and the market area.

While you are out there make sure you also have some thai rice pudding with mango...mmm yummy!

If I was going to be stuck anywhere, Chiang Mai would be high on my preference list. But it sounds like LPH might be heading north as a pillion. Let's hope they stay shiny side up this time.

Keith.

I have indeed been going pillion right up to the Golden Triangle area. A few roads were so gravel strewn or twisty that I jumped into the pickup so Stu didn't have to worry about me, but otherwise it's been great. Went to Burma and Laos yesterday too. I really must get myself wicker some wicker panniers or an ice cream freezer side car for the SV when I get home. They are all the rage here.

Plan to be out next Friday elbow permitting. Taken the splint off for a few hours and my bruise is really very impressive. May still need to have it pinned though.

Have fun tomorrow night - I think we'll be in a go-go bar with the lady boys in Chiang Mai - but tonight it's karaoke in Chiang Rai.
