Election: Labour Vs Conservative - discuss

Tories have always and always will be for the rich. Labour have always been for the poorer. This has been proven in the way tax has changed over the years. Well thats what some people say anyway.
Personally I believe that if a person goes into politics, it's so they can benefit themselves or their family. Which is never good for the rest of us. Hate politicians, hate the way politicians speak ( due to the fact they can never say what is really going on or what they really intend to do ).
I'm voting for the dog next door, get more sense out of it and it only bites when it's scared, unlike politicians.

Historically I'd agree - but in 2010?
Plus there's the "What they say, what they actually do" argument.

Are they actually doing anything different? I don't think either party has said it will lower tax for low earners.

and it was a Labour government that abolished the 10% tax band.

Yes they did make provisos where people could claim back additional benefit/ relief to make up (displaying my ignorance here) but doesn't that just introduce another unecessary layer of paper pushing? That's without considering personal pride.

I would never vote Tory on principle but I do accept the current lot have run their course and are now arrogant and drunk with the hubris of too much power for too long.As their is no credible alternative offering a vision for the future I think we are b^ggered.Not sure what the options are here,but the Tory will win and I will vote for someone else.

But it doesnt a new broom cant sweep clean if the previous government and brought in a load of legislation thats become law because it would seem ( or the impression I am left with ) is that its difficult to unmake law once its been made.

I'm go to go and vote or the local MP that I think is going to his best by the community I live in...

I would personally like to see David Miliband leading labour. I find him to be honest and hardworking. Alas it will take the defeat of Gordon Brown and another 5 years of mediocre government under the conservatives to provide any chance of seeing him or any of the new breed of labour ministers come to the forefront (whom I hope will be much better than the old guard we have now!)

Peg pulls faces as soon as anything on the Greek issue is raised. Its not something he likes to see at all.
The state of his native island when we went over in January is clear to see. The Euro is crippling them

As for the OP......they are both as bad as each other. Whatever comes in next will make just as much mess, so whatever way, we are all up the sh1tter.

"Labour are for the poor, and the Conservatives are for the rich." That was once oh so very true but I'd say is about 50 years out of date.

Labour's age old ethos of equality of wealth and position are ideals that any and all should aspire to want. But in reality is that really feasible? How does Labour try to achieve that equality of wealth and position? I would say Labour used to take money from the top xx% of the population and direct it into the poorer areas but by introducing 95% income tax in the 70's they drove big business out of the country. The employees of those businesses went on strike and we saw power cuts, a shortage of foodstuffs, a 3 & 4 day week. And ultimately we saw a country dying on its feet. I remember two payrises in one year, 13% and 22%, just to keep pace with inflation. I remember a 15% interest rate on mortgages.

The Conservatives came into power following the "Winter of Discontent." And for many years ran Britain as a business, and businesses flourished. Disversity and innovation were backed up by solid policies and funding. And everyone got reasonable pay rises. What the Conservatives didn't, and wouldn't, do was support ailing and out of date industries with public money.

Sadly the Conservatives fell on their own sword thanks to an arrogance brought about by over inflated ego, a fair about of sleaze and a tremendous spin campaign from Labour.

Labour, in the late 90's and in the early '00's performed well. Their biggest failing has been getting rid of Blair, the glue that held the old fashioned Labour to the modern side of the party. The result of losing that has seen the old Labour, with its typically crazed spending policies, throw money at so many silly schemes. They got away with it for awhile but the Global economic crisis has shown up those policies for what they really are.

Labour 'v' Conservatives - the party in power is always held to blame for the state of the nation, and the party wanting to takeover will always promote policies for the majority to gain power. Both veer off to left or right once they been there a while. Both as good and as bad as each other.

To quote Robin Williams in Man of the Year, "political parties are like diapers. They should be changes often, and for the same reason."

I'm in the union at work, only because I needed some clout once.

The one thing I really don't like is how Labour use the union to try and muster support. I have had three letters in three months, telling me how marvellous a party they are, and how me voting for them would be a good decision to make, all from the union.

Well quite frankly I don't need any extra paper shoved through my door encouraging me to vote. If anything it puts me off voting for Labour...not that I am saying I would BTW.

tell Peg not to moan too much!! At least they get better wages over in Cyprus my mrs is from there btw
