I think the main problem is that all the banks in Scotland produce their own notes whereas BOE have one note. The clydesdale bank notes always attract attention down here, they do look fake. Im not saying its right but you cant expect wee shop assistants to recognise every note from different banks in Scotland, it would be nice if they did, but expecting too much I suspect

I can sympathise. I regularly get paid in Scottish 50's and 100's. Try spending those puppies south of the border!

Impossible and I always end up taking them to the bank and changing to English notes. Quite good exchange rates!

Some of the Scottish notes now are very Eurolike and I've had quite a few shop keepers tell me they don't take Euros.

Work it to your advantage folks. Go for dinner, offer scottish notes if they refuse you can leave having offered to pay for your meal / service and been refused.
Also getting more difficult now but if you can get £1 notes you can generally pass them off as fivers south o border

Sorry but yes it does. been there done that.
Refused my offer of payment, So I wrote my name and address down for them to take me to small claims if they wanted (never did) They called local cops who told them to accept my cash or write off the meal as they would not be sending anyone round.

Happend a second time but when they realised i was going to leave they accepted my cash.
