I know I'm slightly biased, the sprint would suit you perfect, I've done a TD on mine, it's pillion comfortastic, it's goes pretty well and it'll tour better than charley and ewans underpants.

Don't let it put you off the bike, it's something that I don't even notice anymore now that I've done 1000 miles on it. You just learn to be more positive with it.
This can be a problem sometimes, I didn't like mine when I first got it, mine has mellowed now I've put 3600miles on it.
Oil level is crucial, too much causes the clunkyness to come back.

Triumph gearboxes seem to get smoother with age,or perhaps you learn where and when to change gear smoothly. My one has been sweet as, since about 30,000miles.
Going up the box can even be clutchless if you want but dropping down I always use the clutch.
I agree there are slicker boxes but the only gear that is still "clunky" on mine is the initial selection of first.Regarding Specialone's comment about oil may I add chain tension to that, considering that I have now done 30+k on my current chain and sprockets and they still look like new but I tend to try and be a smooth rider rather than hell for leather gear slamming up and down the box which is going to have an adverse result on any transmission

Slight derail, but Triumph owners, check your manual regards chain tension. The Daytona is 35-40mm on the sidestand, which is the same as my off-road bike. Seems very slack for a road bike, but that's what the book says, and I haven't adjusted mine yet as it was too tight when I got it as the dealer had adjusted it to the more usual 25mm. That may be why I notice mine clunking less now, it's at the recommended tension.

Haven't adjusted at all, it was set at about 25mm by the dealer, which seemed about right to me for a road bike. It got to about 35mm and I decided to adjust it and got the manual out as I've never had an SSSA before. I was surprised to learn that the minimum was 35mm, and it's still there or thereabouts, so I haven't adjusted it at all yet.

Mate of mine has a daytona with riser bars on. I was amazed at how comfy it was. much more so than my blade (which is the '99 so meant to be more of a sports tourer according to the press). You'd have change from 5k to spend on fuel too! Very nice bike indeed and the tripple engine i thought was deceptively rapid!

Mine is a 56 plate with 3600 miles on the clock and cost me £3 grand from a dealer in Leeds. But I did buy in December.
