Wow! Thank you all for the really useful info and offers.

I'm assembling kit for a trip to Kilimanjaro next February. My two biggest concerns from the kit list were the sleeping bag and a down jacket. A friend's lending me her ski jacket and it looks like I'll be borrowing a sleeping back from one of you lovely guys.

While I'm at it can anyone recommend a good pair of walking poles? Or better still can anyone lend me a pair of walking poles?

I might have space on the bike to bring it to the AR for you to see, if you like the look of, we can arrange to get it to you nearer the time.

From experience I have to agree with these comments. When you get up you remove a good insulator (the bag) and need to replace the insulation with your clothes. If you sleep fully clothed you will have no layers to put on and will shiver for hours in the morning hugging a cup of tea. Been there - done that. Then went to a proper camping shop and came away with an excellent Snugpak bag.

It is not worth saving a few ounces of weight - get the right bag.

Thanks SK. If you're not able to bring it with you, no problem. I still have Richie and Megs offer to work with.

Thanks. So it looks like, I shall be stripping down to my undies, woolly socks and hat before slipping into my sleeping bag.
