i like this one...

do i think that a tiger is more precious than a junkie who is hell bent on destroying his life? yes.

do i think that a tiger is more precious than someone who might discover the cure for aids or cancer? no.

am i religious? no

do i care what happens to my organs when i die? do i feck, why should i when i'm dead.

do i carry a donor card? no i don't

is human life more precious than any thing else? no

when your time is up, its up. so worrying about it is pointless. death comes to us all, some sooner that later so make the best of what life you have.

Man is the ultimate predator on this planet and therefore we are top of the pecking order. do we have the right to kill/manage other species? Damm right we do. Do we have the right to kill/manage our own species? Damm right we do.

Because we are capable of making rational decisions. Do we need to kill, is it in our interest to conserve etc means we don't have to wipe out everything for the hell of it.

Although I have to admit life would sometimes be easier if we allowed tribal warfare to sort out political issues that will never go away

Yeah, history has shown Civil War to be a really quick and effective way of resolving disputes

I have an odd slant on life. I've seen many things, I have dealt with many things, I've watched my dad be told he has 6 months to live with a rare incurable disease, but 8 years later he is still here as surgeons learn and adapt to keep him on the planet.
I've had 2 miscarriages and 2 children. I've seen human life on a screen, dead, looking like a penny in a jar of water, motionless, then have had to go through the pain of having it removed.
My first child gave me a run for my money, I almost had him at 28 weeks, but then went full term, and is now ten.
My second child is 14 months old. I almost had him at 26 weeks, then spent the rest of my pregnancy in hospital at least once a week, as I had complications. I was given an ultimatum three weeks before he was due, that because he wasn't getting oxygen supply as the placenta had stopped working, I had to have emergency caesarian. As I sat listening to his heart beat that day, it would slowly drop.............................................. .................................................. ........

and stop.

Then wait............

and start again slowly. It wasn't because he was moving, its because there was something wrong. His daddy thought he was going to lose both of us that night.
He was in special care for a week. He was as big as his daddies hand, with drips and wires hanging off him. Hes now 14 months old.

My childrens lives are precious, very precious. My family and friends lives are precious.

However, there are too many people on the planet, there are those who keep on spewing out babies like a factory, there are those that sap the energy out of the world whilst giving nothing back, expecting to have everything whilst they sit around doing nowt...then there are those who live in a place where there is constant starvation and child deaths a plenty, who can't help themselves.

The world is a tiny place and there ain't room for all of us! Humans are the destroyer of the planet, and one day we'll be fighting over patches of land because there will be nothing left....mind you by that time I reckon we'll have killed each other off anyway!

We often slate the Chinese for various things,me included, but one thing they have done is try to address the population issue with their one child policy. They have a huge but stable population now, unlike India which will soon become the most populous country on the planet.Totally irresponsible, but no one dares say anything for fear of upsetting them.

I'm not overly keen on the Chinese laws of children. It has its flaws, one of them is the amount of unwanted children in orphanages. Its not that they are unwanted in a lot of cases, its that it is against the law to have them and they have to abandon them there. There could be perhaps a better way of reviewing this law, but it is almost effectual already.

I think people in places like India really do need to have sanctions on how many kids they have....either that or the blokes have a knot tied in their tackle.
Its funny, as there was an article on the news a while back about Britain on average seems to keep with having two children. Three is seen as too many these days, but in the days of my parents having kids, three was the norm. It has a lot to do with people being skint and not being able to afford to have children, but also at the same time on everage its people with a brain that make the decisions to have children or not.

Each individual life is precious, at least to the owner. But I don't think the question is on individuals.

As TW says, we are top of the food chain but does that make us precious or ferocious? We may have rational thought but often irrational behaviour. Our ability for influence is often used against people/nations to corrupt and influence for individual gain against 'the greater goods'. I'm not so sure humankind benefits anything else other than humans, and so if we weren't here, would anything else in the universe be worse off?

Once we get out planetary housekeeping in order i.e. solve povety/disease/wars/selfishness/corruption/need to destroy and eat everything and turn our brains collectively to improving life for all, then maybe are intelligence and ability will become precious. I can't see this happening though and until then we are just something else that evolved and looks after its own interests, not that there's anything wrong with that, I just don't think it makes us precious.

Does that apply to everything weaker than us as individuals as well?
